Margot Genet began her musical studies with the cello before taking up singing at the Conservatoire de Limoges. She subsequently studied at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 2016, and at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), graduating with a Master’s degree in 2019 from the class of Elisabeth Werres. She has furthered her training with Neil Semer, Edith Wiens, Hedwig Fassbender, Elène Golgevit, Regina Werner and Ludovic Tézier.
A recipient of the Opéra Comique’s “Malvina et Denise Menda” scholarship in 2021 and a scholarship from the Richard-Wagner-Verband Dortmund in 2023, she was a member of the Académie Jaroussky during the 2020–21 season. She also took part in the Académie de l’Abbaye de Royaumont in 2021 and the Verbier Festival’s Atelier Lyrique in 2022.
She made her first stage appearances as a member of the Opera Studio of the Opéra National de Lyon, performing the Fire, the Princess and the Nightingale (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges), Ygraine (Ariane et Barbe-Bleue), as well as Poussette (Manon) in concert, under the baton of Daniele Rustioni, in Lyon and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris.
She subsequently joined the NRW Opernstudio, where her roles included Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers), Norina (Don Pasquale), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), and the title role in Avner Dorman’s Die Kinder des Sultans, appearing at the Aalto Theater Essen, Theater Dortmund, Oper Wuppertal and Musiktheater im Revier.
From 2023 to 2025, Margot Genet was a member of the ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier (MiR), where she distinguished herself in a number of role debuts, including Musetta (La Bohème), Nannetta (Falstaff), Despina (Così fan tutte) and Stela (Innocence by Kaija Saariaho). In 2024, she was awarded the Gelsenkirchener Theaterpreis in recognition of outstanding performances at the MiR.
Alongside these engagements, she sang Lisbé (Zémire et Azor) at the Opéra Comique under the direction of Louis Langrée, and Frasquita (Carmen) with the B’Rock Orchestra under the musical direction of René Jacobs, performing in several European cities. In 2024, she was invited to the Händel-Festspiele Halle for a recital with Ensemble Castor, and in 2025 made her debut with the Bochumer Symphoniker.
From the 2025–26 season, she joins the ensemble of the Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken, where her roles include Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Blanche de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites) and Woglinde (Götterdämmerung), the latter production also being presented at the Opéra Royal de Versailles in 2026.
