Biography

A young Franco-Mexican baritone, Sergio Villegas Galvain began his vocal studies in Mexico before continuing his training in France at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (CNSMDL).

In September 2021, he joined the Académie Jaroussky.

On stage, his roles include Ben (Menotti's The Telephone ) with Compagnie Oriana in Lyon, Bastiano (Il Flaminio by Pergolesi) at the TNP in Villeurbanne, Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) with Compagnie I Giocosi in Paris, as well as the Jailer (Dialogues des Carmélites), Ubalde (Gluck's Armide) and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) in productions at the CNSMDL.

In concert, he has sung the baritone solo in Fauré’s Requiem in Mexico and at the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière in Lyon, Saint-Saëns’s Requiem at Lyon’s Festival of Lights, and Petrus in Bach’s St John Passion at the CNSMDL.

More recently, he has performed the title role in Don Giovanni with Compagnie I Giocosi at the Festival Lyrique de Wissant; Dandini (La Cenerentola) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Opéra National de Bordeaux and Opéra de Rouen; Pâris (Roméo et Juliette) at the Opéra National de Paris; Masetto (Don Giovanni) at the Opéra de Lille; Raimbaud (Le Comte Ory) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; Léandre (Le Carnaval de Venise) in Besançon, Compiègne, Grenoble, Quimper and Nantes; Belcore (Un Elisir d'Amour) at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Reims and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; and Paul (Philip Glass's Les Enfants terribles) at the Opéra de Lille.

His forthcoming engagements include Le Dancaïre (Carmen) at the Opéra National de Bordeaux and Avenant (La Belle et la Bête) at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
