Biography

Born in Cameroon, Maurel Endong studied voice in Douala with Jacques-Greg Belobo before continuing his training at the Conservatoire de Marseille (CRR), in the class of Magali Damonte.

He was awarded Second Prize at the Arles International Singing Competition in 2024, following Third Prize in the Opera category at the Concours International des Voix Lyriques d’Afrique in 2022.

He was soon invited to perform the bass solo parts in a wide range of sacred and concert repertoire in Douala, including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass, Dvořák’s Mass in D, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Verdi’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah. He has also performed Fauré’s Requiem in Marseille and Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle in Aix-en-Provence.

More recently, his operatic engagements have included Count Ribbing (Un ballo in maschera) at the Opéra de Marseille, Doctor Grenvil (La Traviata) at the Opéra de Tours, Jesus and the Factory Manager (L’Écume des jours by Edison Denisov) at the Opéra de Lille, Barzakh by Osama Abdulrasol at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp, Gregorio (Roméo et Juliette) in concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Marquis d’Obigny (La Traviata) at the Opéra National de Montpellier, and Monterone (Rigoletto) at the Opéra de Marseille.

His forthcoming engagements include the Innkeeper (Manon Lescaut) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, alongside numerous concert appearances.
