Biography
A graduate in mathematics, Irina Stopina has a dual background as both a singer and an actress, and has studied voice with Lionel Sarrazin since the beginning of her vocal training.
She quickly began performing on stage, and her extensive repertoire includes the Foreign Princess (Rusalka) at the opera houses of Bordeaux, Metz, Avignon and Reims; La Baronessa (Il cappello di paglia di Firenze) at the Opéra de Metz; the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro) in Vienna; Micaëla (Carmen) in Bordeaux; Métella (La Vie parisienne) at the opera houses of Metz and Massy; Donna Anna (Don Giovanni); and Dido (Dido & Aeneas) in Bordeaux.
More recently, she has performed Leonora (Il trovatore) at the Opéra de Québec, the Opéra de Massy and the Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand, as well as in Spain; the title role in Turandot, in its French version, at the Opéra de Rouen; Abigaille (Nabucco) with Opéra Périgord Dordogne; and Mimì (La Bohème) in Spain and France, including Massy and Clermont-Ferrand.
In concert, recent appearances include Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 at the Opéra de Marseille, a recital devoted to Schreker, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, and a Verdi recital at the Opéra National de Bordeaux and at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice.
She has worked under the direction of conductors including Michele Spotti, Domingo Hindoyan, Paolo Arrivabeni, Kaspar Zehnder, Claude Schnitzler, Jacques Mercier, Federico Tibone, Swann Van Rechem and Kanako Abe.
With a particular interest in contemporary music, she recorded Gilles Raynal’s Recueil de chants élégiaques with the Orchestre Symphonique des Dômes and has performed Patrick Nebbula’s Les Âmes naturelles.
Her forthcoming engagements include Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly) and the title role in Tosca. She will also take part in the world premiere of Gilles Raynal’s one-woman opera Margot la folle, for voice, piano and percussion, and perform Shostakovich’s Seven Romances on Poems by Alexander Blok in Marseille as part of the Festival des Musiques Interdites, alongside numerous other concert engagements.
