Biography

 

After studying medicine, Nona Javakhidzé, a French mezzo soprano of Georgian origin, earned a Premier Prix diploma in lyric art from the École Normale de Musique in Paris in 1999 and decided to devote herself exclusively to song.

She debuted as Amneris (Aida) at the Tbilisi National Opera, and made her internatioal debut in 2000 at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux in Carmen (Peter Brook’s La Tragédie de Carmen).

 

Since then, she has regularly appeared on French and international stages: the Opéra National de Paris – Bastille and Garnier, the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Capitole de Toulouse, the Opéra National du Rhin and the Opéra National de Bordeaux, the Nice, Montpellier, Avignon, Marseille, Sai
nt-Étienne, Nantes, Tours and Toulon Operas, the Chorégies d’Orange and Radio-France Festivals, the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Lucerne Festival, the Beijing National Opera, Salle Pleyel and Munich’s Herculessaal, and more, in the following roles: Eboli (Don Carlo), Margared (Le Roi d’Ys), Olga, Filipievna and Larina (Eugene Onegin), Mrs Quickly and Mag Page (Falstaff), Maddalena and Giovanna (Rigoletto), Emilia (Otello), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Mezzo-soprano (Un Re in Ascolto), Duniasha (The Tsar’s Bride), The Innkeeper (Boris Godunov),  Mère de Vita (L’Etranger), Third Wood Sprite (Rusalka), Curra (La Forza del Destino), Federica (Luisa Miller)… 

In concert, Nona Javakhidze has sung Verdi’s, Mozart’s and Duruflé’s Requiems, Rossini’s, Pergolesi’s and Szymanowski’s Stabat Maters, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Missa Solemnis, Stravinsky’s Les Noces and Pulcinella, M. de Falla’s El Amor Brujo and El Sombrero de Tres Picos, Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky, Shostakovich’s From Jewish Folk Poetry …

She is currently preparing to sing Filipievna (Eugene Onegin) at the Tours Opera.
