Biography

 

After leaving the Paris Opera’s École d’Art Lyrique, Antoine Garcin appeared in many shows at the Paris Opera and the Opéra Comique. He was quickly hired for prestigious productions with Radio-France: Salomé conducted by Marek Janowski, Béatrice et Bénédict at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Handel’s Giulio Cesare alongside Montserrat Caballé at Salle Pleyel... He has also been featured many times in Bercy productions, including Faust and Carmen.

Antoine Garcin has appeared on all of the French stages: Montpellier, Saint-Etienne, Toulouse, Lyon, Bordeaux, Tours, Marseille, Strasbourg, Nancy, Metz, Rennes, the Opéra Comique, and regularly at the Opéra Bastille, for roles including Masetto (Don Giovanni),  Le Comte Des Grieux (Manon), Le Marquis de La Force (Dialogues des Carmélites), Basile (The Barber of Seville), Mustafa (L’Italiana in Algeri), Bartolo (The Marriage of Figaro), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Arkel (Pelléas et Mélisande), Don Inigo (L’Heure Espagnole)…

His discography includes the role of Le Roi Raimbert in Massenet’s Amadis, conducted by Patrick Fournillier (which earned a Grand Prize from the Académie National du Disque Lyrique).

He also has a broad oratorio repertoire and frequently performs melody recitals.

He has played Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Ramon (Mireille), Capello (Capuleti e Montecchi) and Mucien (Bérénice) at the Tours Opera, Truchsess von Waldburg (Mathis der Maler) and Farfarello (The Love For Three Oranges) at the Opéra National de Paris, Arkel (Pelléas et Mélisande) at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, the Music Master (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Metz Opera, Piquoiseau (Marius et Fanny), Giscon (Reyer’s Salammbô) and Le Maréchal des Logis (La Chartreuse de Parme) at the Marseille Opera, Calchas (La Belle Hélène) at the Saint-Étienne and Toulouse Operas, the Fifth Jew (Salome) at the Bordeaux and Paris Operas, Tom (Un ballo in maschera) in Bordeaux, Fouquier-Tinville (Andrea Chénier) at the Toulouse and Paris Operas, Luther (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) in Monte-Carlo, and Barbavano (Les Brigands) in Toulon and at the Opéra-Comique.

 

More recently, he has played Pistola (Falstaff) at the Tours Opera, Calchas (La Belle Hélène) at the Toulon Opera, Dottore Grenvil (La Traviata) at the Paris Opera and Angelotti (Tosca) in Saint-Étienne and Marseille, Maréchal Marmont (L’Aiglon) in Marseille.

 

He will soon appear at the Marseille Opera as Gravedigger (Hamlet) and Rochefort (Anna Bolena).
